Hawthorne Plaza Announces Renovation and Welcomes The Container Store

HawthornePlaza-ClientNews-LogoHawthorne Plaza, the 115,000-square-foot neighborhood shopping destination located on the southwest corner of 119th Street and Roe Avenue in Overland Park, announces the center is undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation. In conjunction with the renovation, the shopping area will be home to The Container Store®, the nation’s leading retailer of storage and organization products – the first to open in the Kansas City metro area. A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on The Container Store is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 5:00pm.

The new store – full of 10,000 time and space-saving solutions to solve even the biggest organization challenges – will be divided into 16 lifestyle sections, including kitchen, closet, office, gift packaging, trash, shelving, bath, laundry and travel. The retailer, known for its unique workplace culture and emphasis on putting its employees first, will couple its one-of-a-kind product collection with a high level of customer service delivered by its highly trained organizational experts. The Container Store is scheduled to open in spring of 2015.

“Hawthorne Plaza offers a diverse assortment of well-known brands and retailers, providing area customers with an unmatched shopping experience,” says Casey Shilling, The Container Store’s vice president of public relations and marketing communications. “We look forward to being part of that experience and to bringing our time- and space-saving solutions to our customers in Kansas City.”

The Hawthorne Plaza renovation will occur in phases to avoid inconveniencing shoppers, with the first phase beginning this month. Shoppers may notice changes and signs of construction, but Hawthorne Plaza will remain open during normal business hours throughout the entire renovation process. It is anticipated that the renovation will be completed by fall of 2014 in plenty of time for the holiday shopping season.

“This renovation will give the shopping center a modern, updated look and improved traffic flow that will help to maintain the property’s success and popularity in the community for many years to come. The addition of The Container Store will draw shoppers from Overland Park and around the Kansas City metro. This unique retailer offers products and services you cannot find anywhere else in the area. We’re thrilled to have them join our center,” said David Hickman, senior vice president at CBRE, Kansas City.
